Display Names and Usernames
Every Zingor account has two names: a username and a display name. They serve different purposes, and understanding the distinction helps you control how you appear to other players.
Usernames
Your username is the name you chose when you registered. It is your permanent account identity. You sign in with it, and it appears in the web address of your profile page (for example, /users/aldric/).
Each account needs a permanent username so that Zingor can keep track of who has what characters, and construct links for you to login, reset your password, and so on. Therefore, Zingor does not let you edit your username after registration.
Display Names
A display name is an optional, friendly label shown in place of your username throughout the app. Setting a display name is how Zingor lets you get around the fact that your username can’t change. Your display name is what other players see next to your characters and in your profile heading. If you have not set a display name, Zingor shows your username instead.
You can change your display name to express yourself however you like. You can use any capitalization, spacing, or special characters, making your display name entirely different from your username. You can change your display name as many times as you want, as often as you want.
Your display name appears:
in the navigation bar, on the link to your own profile;
in the “Player” column of the party and character lists;
as the heading and page title of your profile page.
Setting or Changing Your Display Name
Open your own profile page. The quickest route is the link bearing your name at the top-right of every page, which goes to /users/<your-username>/.
On your profile you’ll find a Display name field. Type the name you want and click Save. The change takes effect immediately everywhere your name is shown.
Note
You can only edit your own display name. Other players’ profile pages are visible to you, but the editing form appears only on your own.
Resetting to Your Username
To go back to showing your plain username, clear the Display name field and click Save with the input left empty. Zingor treats a blank display name as “just use the username,” so your username takes over again everywhere.
How the Two Names Appear Together
When your display name differs from your username, your profile page shows the display name as its heading and notes your username underneath, so people can still tell which account they’re looking at:

When you have no display name set, the heading is your username, and no separate note is shown (since there’s nothing extra to distinguish).
